The Invention of Television, Super Glue and Frisbee Essay

Television The beginning of TV can be tracked back to the discovery of photoconductivity back in 1873 by Willoughby Smith. TV was invented in the mid 1920’s by a Scottish inventor name John Logie Baird in London. Baird patented technology by using arrays of transparent rods to transmit images to be delivered to a television set. The first picture of moving object was transmitted by Baird in 1924, televised human face in 1925, and last but not least the first real – time moving object in 1926. The first color broadcasting was arrived in United States in 1953 and the first color commercial was televised in 1954 and soon television became the leading source for national advertising. Although his formula for the gun sight didn’t quite work out the way he had expected to be , but it did work extremely well for a quick bounding substance. Since Coover’s goal was to make a gun sight he quickly abandon the formulation for the super glue quickly since it was way too sticky. It wasn’t until 9 years later during 1951 with Coover working at Eastman Kodak, he was supervisor for a project looking for a heat resistance glue for jet canopies. Which later on lead back to the rediscovery of super glue, he then tested it by spreading it between a pair of refract meter prisms. The testing was great the prisms stuck together very well and solid and this time Coover didn’t abandoned the idea of super glue. He realized the product was amazing and it can bond to variety of material and all it took to activate the glue was to add a little bit of water. In 1958 super glue was finally put on the mark and it wasn’t called super glue but instead it was called â€Å"Eastman#910†, then later on changed to Loctite â€Å"Quick Set 404† an d finally named to Super Glue. The Victorian era is an extraordinarily complex age that occurred throughout the reign of Queen Victoria from 1837 to 1901. The Victorian Era was a tremendously exciting period that created the emergence of many various artistic styles such as literacy, poetry, and painting. In addition, the Era caused the social, political, and religious movements to flourish. The Victorian Era, although being known as the beginning of modern times, still embraced some radical views that today we would associate as prudishness and repression. In 1890, author Oscar Wilde wrote The Picture of Dorian Gray and submitted it to Lippincott’s Monthly Magazine. The magazine’s editor, J.M. Stoddert, immediately declined the novel and determined that it would offend the sensibilities of his readership (Wilde x). It was believed that Oscar Wilde’s book contained explicit sexual, especially homosexual, content which contradicted the time period of the Victorian Era and was deemed obscene. It was not until 2011, that Wilde’s novel was published as originally written under the title, The Picture of Dorian Gray: An Annotated, Uncensored Edition. The Uncensored Picture of Dorian Gray highlights the triangular relationship between the three leading characters: Basil Hallward, Dorian Gray, and Lord Henry Wotton.
